Official quest start after you see a color for the first time.

"I saw a weird shade..."

Loop (oh my1) A weird... Shade?

Siffrin (hide4) "When I was fighting the King."

Siffrin (hide5) "A shade that doesn't exist."

Loop (hm1) A shade that doesn't exist...

Loop (hmmm1) Interesting. I wonder if you could find more information about it somewhere...

Loop (oh1) Not that it's that important or related to the loops, but it's weird, right?

Secret Library

Full page: Secret Library

The book on the left bookshelf.

(The bookcase is filled with books about something called "Colors".)

  • ACT 2: (None of those catch your eye.)
  • After starting Odile's Friendquest: (No familytales, but...)

(You need any help you can get.)

(You pick one at random...)

("Color Theory: What It Means For Us And Our Past".)

(Looks boring and dense...)

Mirabelle (excited1) Oh yes, color theory! Are you interested, Siffrin?

(You shrug.)

Isabeau (boo1) Huh...

Isabeau (neutral1) What's a color?

Bonnie (lol2) Hahaha, Za doesn't know what a color is!!!

Isabeau (hahaha2) I really don't! Tell me!

Bonnie (sulk5) It's, um... Um...

Bonnie (serious1) It's like weird shades.

Bonnie (sulk5) I learned it at school, but it wasn't very interesting so I crafted a drawing on my table instead.

Isabeau (really1) Wow Bonbon, you're so hardcore.

Odile (gimme1) They ARE weird shades, yes. This is a relatively new discovery, so I'm not surprised you haven't heard, Isabeau...

Odile (reading1) ...But a very long time ago, we could apparently see shades called "colors".

Bonnie (yeah!3) Yeah! They had a shade called "Bloo" and that's the sky's real shade, and one named "Grin" and that's what the grass looked like!

Mirabelle (awkward2) I think the world around us still are those "colors", but we just, um, forgot how to see them?

Mirabelle (awkward1b) Or so researchers say... I think the House over in Corbeaux was researching it.

Isabeau (angry2) That's...

Isabeau (huhwah1) THAT'S SUCH BIG NEWS?!?! HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS?!??!

Isabeau (sniff1) I FAILED YOU ALL...

Odile (lol4) Oh, don't worry. We don't usually count on you to know things.

Isabeau (brag1) ...Oh yeah! That's true!!!

First time only

("Colors"... Shades people can't see anymore...)

(It seems silly, but somehow, this knowledge feels familiar to you.)

"I saw a weird shade..."

Loop (oh my1) A weird... Shade?

Siffrin (hide4) "When I was fighting the King."

Siffrin (hide5) "A shade that doesn't exist."

Loop (hm1) Like... A "color"?

(A "color"?)

Loop (oh my1) Don't you remember? I think you read a book about it somewhere...

Loop (hm1) Maybe you should look at it again, try to find other books, if you wanted to find out more...?

Observatory

Full page: Observatory

The open book on the central table.

(There's a book in Ka Buan open on the table.)

(You all look at Odile.)

Odile (huh1) A Ka Buan book here in Vaugarde, how rare...

Odile (reading2) The title translates to... "Colors Through Time"?

Odile (reading1) It seems to be an essay about color theory.

Isabeau (fufufu1) "Color theory"...

If you've never read the first color book before

(...)

(Colors... What you saw, when you talked to the King...)

(Was that a "color"?)

(...)

  • If you've never read the first color book: (What's a color? Maybe you should look around the House for another book on colors...)
  • If you have read it, but not this loop:(Maybe you should reread the color book in the secret library first...)

If you've read the first color book in this loop

(But what if you did.)

Isabeau (boo1) Ah, I know this face, Sif...

Isabeau (fufufu1) "But what if we did?"

(Odile sighs and picks up the book.)

Mirabelle (anxious2) Yes, I'm not the one reading this time...

Odile (lol4) Heh.

Odile (reading2) ...This book seems to go into detail about what could've caused colors to disappear...

Bonnie (no!2) Something big must've happened, right? For everyone to not be able to see them anymore!

Mirabelle (anxious2) And it was a very long time ago, so there's probably no records of why...

Odile (reading2) There seem to be a lot of theories... A Craft experiment gone horribly wrong, the side effect of a Craft war...

Odile (reading1) Whatever happened then, all colors disappeared from this world.

Isabeau (wonder2) But it seems impossible, right?

Isabeau (neutral1) It'd be like... Like if everyone stopped seeing shades all of a sudden.

Odile (dotdotdot2) I do wonder what could've made that happen, yes.

If the party doesn't know about Wish Craft

Bonnie (ew1) Weird...

If you've read the first book on Wish Craft this loop

Mirabelle (hm3) ...That Wish Craft thing, perhaps?"

(Oh.)

Odile (huh1) Ah yes... If Wish Craft can really make the impossible come true, maybe that is what happened.

First time

(You're still wondering about that weird shade you saw, while... Talking to the King.)

(Was that weird shade a "color"?)

Subsequent times

(Ask again.)

Siffrin (fake1) "Is there a way to see colors now?"

Odile (reading2) Funny you should mention it... People have been known to see a "weird shade" during...

Odile (what1) Um... "Times of immense trouble"?

Odile (guilty1) They described this shade as... "Scary"? "Dangerous"? "Visceral", maybe?

Odile (gimme1) Historians think this "weird shade" could've been a color.

Mirabelle (stressed1) A "visceral" shade?

Isabeau (wonder1) "Times of immense trouble"? What does that mean?

Odile (hm1) Sorry, it's a little tough to translate... Moments before something "breaks", maybe?

Isabeau (wonder2) When something breaks...

Isabeau (hm2) Like, during the end of something? Or something gets destroyed?

Bonnie (and then1) Like the end of the world?

Odile (reading2) Maybe so.

Mirabelle (stressed1) If colors were an integral part of the world... Then the world rights itself right before the end...

Mirabelle (happy1) How poetic! Someone should write a novel about this!

(...)

(Colors appear when something "breaks", huh...)

(When the King tried so hard to say your country's name... Did something "break" then?)

"I saw a weird shade..."

Loop (teehee3) Yep, and you found two books about it!

Loop (hm1) Hm, so it seems colors have always existed, but we can't see them anymore...

Loop (hm1) And we get to see them again when... Something breaks?

Loop (away1) One color appears first, it seems...

Loop (hmmm1) A... "Visceral" color? Does that match what you've seen...?

(It does.)

(Somehow, that color made you think of blood and bodies and horrible things.)

Loop (oh1) Hm...

Loop (teehee2) Maybe it appeared because you tried to break whatever rule makes it impossible for anyone to say your country's name?

Loop (happy1) That'd count as something "breaking", wouldn't it? Breaking a rule?

(Breaking a rule...)

(Maybe that's it.)

Loop (away1) Hm.

Loop (ew1) But that's all speculation. And I doubt you'll be able to learn more...

Loop (teehee3) But good job finding that out! You're so smart and knowledgeable, stardust!
